Drooping eyebrows occur due to repetitive facial movements, loss of skin elasticity, skin aging and the effect of gravity. The eyebrow may fall completely or its outer and inner parts may fall.
What is the normal eyebrow shape and position?
Normally, the eyebrow shape and level are different in men and women. In men, the eyebrow draws a straight shape outwards, while in women it draws a more crescent-shaped. Anatomically, in men, the lower line of the eyebrows borders the bone tissue at the top of the eye, while in women it’s 1-2 mm higher.
What to pay attention to during the consultation?
- Eyebrow shape and level is examined.
- The distance between eyebrow and eyelash is measured.
- By palpation (manual examination), adhesions and tension with the underlying tissue is examined.
- The forehead area is examined to measure the distance between the eyebrow and hairline.
- The upper eyelid is examined to check for drooping and looseness.
Can eyebrow lift be achieved with Botox?
Yes. Botox is quite effective and provides good results for individuals who do not wish to undergo surgery. However, as it is known, the effect of Botox is temporary, with an average duration of around 6 months initially. Over time, the duration of the effect will decrease, and it will need to be administered more frequently.
Can eyebrow lift be achieved with fillers?
If there is no eyebrow sagging or noticeable eyebrow drooping, fillers can be injected into the tail of the eyebrows to achieve a pleasing appearance.
How is eyebrow lift surgery performed?
Depending on the preference of the surgeon, eyebrow lift surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia.
Open surgery or closed surgery?
There are primarily four types of surgical approaches:
- Direct browpexy, an open surgery performed just above the eyebrow. It is mostly preferred for elderly males.
- Surgery performed in conjunction with upper eyelid blepharoplasty, leaving no visible scars on the eyebrow. It is highly effective and provides good results, especially for patients requiring upper eyelid blepharoplasty.
- Surgery performed with endoscopic support through the scalp. This procedure leaves no visible scars in the eyebrow region.
- Open surgery performed through the scalp. Like the endoscopic approach, this surgery also leaves no visible scars in the eyebrow region. It is often chosen for women with significant forehead wrinkles and laxity, and it can reduce forehead wrinkles in the same session.
When can one resume normal activities after the surgery?
On average, one can return to normal activities within one to ten days. If non-absorbable sutures are used, they can be removed after one week. It is normal to experience swelling and bruising for a week after the surgery.
